Drain apple rings and cut 3 rings into quarter circles. Brown sausage in 1 tablespoon oil in 12" Dutch Oven. Place one apple ring in the greased oven center then arrange sausage spoke-fashion touching bottom of oven. Place cut apple rings in a circle around the outside forming the rim of the wheel, between the spokes. Combine ½ c. cooking oil with egg, oats, milk, brown sugar and biscuit mix in a mixing bowl. Stir just until moistened. Spread batter evenly over wheel. Bake at 400 degrees (one ring of briquets below oven, two rings on top) for 20-25 minutes or until browned. Invert onto serving plate. Serve with syrup. |
